Ned Kelly was one of the eight children and he was the oldest. Ned was born to two Irish parents in Victoria in He had a father named John Kelly and a mother by the name of Ellen Kelly. This is a picture of his parents on the right.

This is where Ned Kelly and his family lived. Ned and his family lived in this cottage his family were poor. They lived in Victoria (Glenrowan?). The best land was held by a handful of wealthy people so called squatters. But Ned's family was poor and the only opportunity they had to own land was as selectors.

Under the selection system families took up arias of land set aside by the government and payed them off bit by bit. As part of the scheme they also had to improve the property by cleaning the cottage and building a house, putting up fences and growing a crop. This is a picture of Ellen Kelly and her children out side their cottage.

In Ned Kelly's life it was rugged, wild country and life was hard. Ned was just age 16 when he was convicted of receiving a stolen horse and served 3 years in gaol before being released in 1874.

In April 1878 a police officer called Fitzpatrick accused Ned's mother of attacking him and Ned of shooting him in the wrist. This is a picture of Ned Kelly in chains when he was a convict.

Ned Kelly was convicted of murdering a police officer at Stringy Bark and was sentenced to death. In Melbourne gaol on 11 th of November 1880 Ned Kelly was hanged. He was 25 years old when he died.
