Good Afternoon! Please get ready to add vocabulary words to your notes. DMA Will follow!

Vocabulary Set 3 Write down the words, part of speech and definitions. The quiz on Friday will have ALL of these words, and SOME of the words from the previous weeks!

When the going get’s tough… 1. Convoluted (adj) Def: Intricate; complex. Sample: The directions were so convoluted that we drove all around the city and got lost. 2. Cryptic (adj) Def. difficult to comprehend The writing on the walls of the crypt was cryptic; none of the scientists understood it.

When the going gets tough… 3. futile (adj.) Def. having no useful purpose; pointless Sample: “It is futile to try to explain the difference between right and wrong to your pet.” 4. impede (verb) Def. to slow the progress of Sample “The retreating army constructed barbed-wire fences and destroyed bridges to impede the advance of the enemy.”

DMAs, notes, Vocabulary You should have 3 sets of vocabulary and definitions. You should have DMAs from these first 6 weeks of school. If you are absent when we have a DMA, please write 5 complete sentences or more about any topic of your choice. Please check in with a friend if you were absent and want to see if we had a DMA on that day. I will return your notebooks on Monday.
