High Road (fills buckets, shows empathy) Low Road (empties buckets, shows NO empathy)

Empathy & Compassion What are they?

Empathy & Compassion What are they? It is when you try to understand how someone else feels.

How would someone feel if they raised their hand in class and gave an incorrect answer? How would someone feel if they missed the winning kick in the big game? How would someone feel if they tripped and fell during a PTO play? How would someone feel if their pet died? How would someone feel if they began crying during class and someone called them a cry baby?

How would YOU feel if these things happened to you? How would you want other people to treat you? What are YOU going to do if you see these types of things happening? How are YOU going to show empathy and compassion to others?

Turn & Talk activity 1.Tell each other about a time you showed empathy towards someone. Explain how this made you feel. Explain how you think the other person felt. 2.Tell your partner about a time you did NOT show empathy towards someone. Explain how this made you feel. Explain how you think the other person felt.
