Target Vocabulary Core: look Fringe: dress pumpkin candy bag hat

Teaching Ideas Teach the target vocabulary first. Before using with your student, preview the animations to best support communication opportunities. Read the book together; ask questions that support use of the target vocabulary (the idea is NOT for the student to copy icon sequences). The adult should maintain control of the mouse. Use a 5-second time delay after transitioning to a slide to allow the student time to initiate with the core verb “look,” before providing additional prompting. Look up other words; pivot off the core vocabulary to include fringe (i.e., “Look hat,” “Look black hat”). If applicable, expand vocabulary and device use by asking questions such as, “Where did Annie find the hat?” and/or “What did Annie do with the hat?” Annie doll and Haunted House templates are available at the end of the Powerpoint. These provide a good opportunity to practice the core verb “put” (i.e., “put hat”).

Halloween Fun!

It’s Halloween night. Annie is going to a Halloween party. She’s going to be a witch, but she can’t find her hat. Let’s help her look. Her magic wand will help us.

LOOK in the closet. Is her hat there? No, but her dress is. Annie puts it on.

LOOK on her dresser. Is her hat there? No, but her pumpkin is. Annie gets it with her magic wand.

LOOK under her bed. Is her hat there? No, but her candy bag is. Annie needs her candy bag.

LOOK under her pillow. Is her hat there?

There are two hats. What will Annie do?

Annie puts on the little hat.

Too small. Annie puts on the black hat.

Awesome! Annie is ready for the party.

Make an Annie doll.

Make the haunted house.
