Norway during Christmas

Norway and it’s foods Lutefisk= Stockfish that has been lying in water and lye a way to preserve fish in the old days then cooked in the oven. Mostly served with potatoes, bacon, mushy peas and mustard. Although the wobbly fish is traditionally the center of Christmas time feasts, the season is getting longer as lutefisk is liked by most people. If you go to a norwegian christmas you will see different kinds of foods like pepperjacce, and pinjernot just to name a few.

Norway and the history of the holiday The Norwegian Christmas celebrations begin with the Saint Lucia ceremony on December 13 At daybreak, the youngest daughter from each family puts on a white robe with a sash, a crown with evergreens and tall lighted candles. The boys dress up as star boys in long white shirts and pointed hats. Then the youngest daughter and the other children wake their parents, and serve them breakfast and lucia buns, lussekatter. This is said to commence the Christmas festivities in the country. On Christmas Day, most families have a big brunch at noon or dinner in the afternoon. People invite their friends and loved ones to have meal with them. Cakes and cookies are relished together and everyone is wished Merry Christmas. Different nuts, fruits, dates and sweets also belong to the celebration

The types of decorations you will see at a Norwegian house during Christmas1 Christmas trees - generally made out of spruce or pine tree are set up in each house and traditionally embelished with candles or white lights, Norwegian flags, apples, straw ornaments, tinsels and even colourful paper baskets made by the children in the family. The indoors are decked up with lovely flowers such as hyacinths and red tulips.

Norway’s holiday traditions Christmas Eve is the main event in Norwegian Christmas celebration. The first part of the day is often spent rushing around for the last Christmas presents, or in chuch for Christmas service. At five the bells ring out for Christmas, and most people have Christmas dinner at home or with relatives. The Christmas presents have been placed under the tree, and are opened after dinner. The days between Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are typically spent going to lunches and dinners with family and friends.

Thanks for watching =Byeeeeee!
