Needs Assessment When do kids establish food cooking behaviors? Where do they learn behavior? What part of the Fight BAC! message is meaningful to them? Challenges –Food safety not mandated curriculum –Kids aren’t looking for information –Kids learn from parents

Breakdown of Educational Objectives: Needs Table Kids will recognize symptoms and forms of food borne illness as identified by the national Fight BAC Campaign. Kids will recognize food borne illness as a problem directly related to their own personal practices Through their actions, kids will demonstrate a need to share food safety information with friends and family members, particularly when seeing a violation. Kids will wash their hands for a full 20 seconds voluntarily at needed times. Kids will know what food needs to be refrigerated and understand the importance of doing so within 2 hours. Raw meat and juices should not be consumed. Kids will understand why raw meat is dangerous, and identify how safe foods should be kept separate from raw foods and juices.

Food Detectives Fight BAC! — Goals –Reach game-playing kids in spare time –Entertaining site that sustains interest –Educational messages (Modified Fight BAC!) Handwashing: when and how Leftovers: 2 hour rule Killing or slowing bacteria growth “Adult Evangelization”
