MISSION Develop the leadership ability and professional skills of each candidate in preparation for the individual’s appointment as a Second Lieutenant in the Virginia Army National Guard or the U.S. Army Reserve. (VaARNG Regulation 351-5)

(Must be met and documented prior to Phase I) OCS PREREQUISITES (Must be met and documented prior to Phase I) Passing APFT Passing Ht / Wt 90+ College Credits Birth Certificate/Proof of Citizenship BCT & AIT / or OCS Option GT 110+ Current Chapter 2 Physical Submitted Secret Clearance Request ETS Beyond Projected Commissioning Waivers Requested Attached / Promoted (E-6)

FEDERAL RECOGNITION Commissioning Requirements NGB 62-E Completed 90+ College Credits with an accredited university Commissioning Physical Passing APFT Passing Ht/Wt Social Security Card Birth Certificate / Proof of Citizenship DD 214 / DD 220 / NGB 22 Statement of MSO / 20 Year Retirement Secret Clearance Granted Waivers Approved

OCS Program

PRE-OCS Pre-OCS (Holding Platoon) was developed to provide continuity of training; opportunity for leadership-specific blocks of instruction and timely facilitation of administrative tasks. The Holding Platoon eliminates the lag time between schools and provide those with limited soldiering experience the opportunity to learn or improve the skills necessary to succeed at OCS.

Phase 0 OCS OCS Prep was developed both with the intent of providing maximum time for ALL candidates to complete pre-requisites and Fed-Rec Packets IOT be prepared for Phase I. This Phase also provides those with limited soldiering experience the opportunity to learn or improve the skills necessary to succeed at OCS.

TRADITIONAL OVERVIEW Approximately 22 months of training Phase I: 2-week AT in Edgewood, MD in June Phase II: IDT Drill weekends @ Fort Pickett for 11 months- July to June Phase III: 2-week AT in Edgewood, MD in July to August Graduate August IDT period after Phase III

Assessment of Basic Leadership Qualities of Candidates TRADITIONAL PHASE I Assessment of Basic Leadership Qualities of Candidates Land Navigation/FTX Drill and Ceremony Student Taught MQS Tasks (WTBD) Basic Soldier Skills Assessment

TRADITIONAL PHASE II Candidates’ duties continue between drills, with training meetings, class projects, planning and coordination to prepare them for their role as a NG Officer Refine Leadership Skills Instruction on Leadership, Operations, Supply, Field Artillery, Military Intelligence, Tactics, Military Justice, Military History and Training Management Learn company level leadership roles through FTX/Squad lanes/Infantry tactics training

TRADITIONAL PHASE III Expected to be performing at the level of a 2LT Learn Squad, Platoon Level Tactics Infantry Based Doctrine-Platoon level Emphasis is on FM 3-21.8 Primarily Field Problems and Lanes

ACCELERATED OVERVIEW Approx 8 weeks of training. Offered twice a year. Same program of instruction (POI) as the traditional program Candidate must pass the OCS board to be selected Winter (23 January 2015 to 21 March 2015) All three Phases at Ft McClellan, AL Summer (10 July to 06 September 2015) Phase I- 2 Weeks in Niantic, CT Phase II- 4 Weeks at FT Indiantown Gap, PA Phase III- 2 Weeks at FT Indiantown Gap, PA Graduate next 183rd RTI IDT period after Phase III

ACCELERATED CANDIDATES Must meet all Pre-Requisites and have a complete Federal Recognition Packet prior to attending Phase I Key items for Accelerated Candidates: College transcripts and Required Test Scores Commissioning Physical Secret Clearance Granted Waivers Approved
