Presentation transcript:

 According to The Student Senate for California Community Colleges:  “The number of students who vote in the election for the Student Representation Fee must be equal to or exceed the average of the number of students who voted in in the previous three student body association elections”.

 April 25 th and 26 th, ASG general elections 191 students voted  September 26 th, Election to ratify changes to the ASG Constitution  October 17 th, Election to ratify changes to the ASG bylaws.

 Flyers and posters will go out next week (week of 9/24).  A video, like this one from Citrus College, will be made (and posted to YouTube) to educate the students of Willow International  A forum between the students and ASG (in late October) will be held for those that have questions.

 Language required on ballot: Purpose of Student Representation Bill and Fee The student Representation Fee shall be expended to provide for the support of governmental affair representatives who may be stating their positions and view points before district, city, and county governments, and before offices and agencies of the state and the federal governments. (see Education Code Section ). Examples of appropriate use are : a) paying for trips, conferences in which students representation to governmental agencies is supported, b) Paying subscription dues that directly increase the ability of the Associated Students to represent the student body, and c) Purchase of equipment and materials which will increase the ability of the Associated Students to represent the student body. Collection of The Student Representation Fee The Student Representation Fee is collected by Willow International at the time of student’s registration and deposited in a separate fiduciary fund established per the California Community College’s Budget and Accounting Manual. Students may opt to waive this fee for religious, political, financial, or moral reasons. The chief fiscal officer of Willow International shall have custody of the money collected. The District may retain up to seven percent of the fees collected for administering fees. The fee shall be no more than one dollar ($1.00) per student, per semester, as permitted by California Law. (See Education Code Section ).

 An example Fee waiver from will be handed out at this time…

 A meeting will be called in which The Business Office, Admissions and Records and The ASG will develop the process of collection and establishing a new account.

 Once I pay the fee, can I get a refund?  Answer: No refunds will be issued once the fee is collected (as per Board Action 8/5/03, Item #03-169)  Can we send out the waiver forms in advance vs. at the time of payment?  Answer: Possibly, however, FCC considered this in 2003 and it was deemed that this “process does not meet the intent of the law”.  How will students know that they can waive the fee then?  Answer: In 2003, FCC decided to send the waiver forms out in all financial aide materials, plus, a supply of forms will be sent to Admissions and Records for prominent display. The waiver form will also be made available online.

 Student Representation Fee Special Election is on Monday, November 5 th AND Tuesday, November 6 th from 9:00am to 4:00pm in the AC1 Lobby!!!!!!!
