 Projector .55” x 2.36” x 4.64”  133 g with battery  16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratio  848 x 480 pixels  Laser Pointers  5 mW output power  532 +/- 10 nm wavelength  Graphical User Interface  User friendly interface  Easy setup L3PT Large Portable Projected Peripheral Touchscreen Brian Gosselin Jr., Greg Langlois, Nick Jacek, Dmitry Kovalenkov Faculty Advisor: Prof. Robert Jackson Jr. Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering ECE 415/ECE 416 – SENIOR DESIGN PROJECT 2012 College of Engineering - University of Massachusetts Amherst SDP 12 Team Jackson Laser Pointers Image Processing Multitouch Driver Calibration IR Camera GUI Projector Overview Robert Jackson Jr. Team Advisor Brian Gosselin Jr. Electrical Engineer Dmitry Kovalenkov Electrical Engineer Nick Jacek Computer Engineer Greg Langlois Computer Engineer System Components Block Diagram In a market where touchscreen devices have become more prominent, a device that combines a large workspace with portability would be ideal. The purpose of L3PT is to fill this niche in the market. By adjusting the distance between a projector and a flat surface, one has the capability to set up the L3PT to project up to a thirty inch screen. The L3PT provides the user with the option of projecting the image onto a wall or table. By utilizing a calibration setting, the user can calibrate the projected screen size for seamless interaction with the PC.  IR Camera  IR longpass filtered  30 fps frame rate  Calibration  Compensates for the size of the projected screen  Aligns coordinates between camera and projector  Accounts for projector skew  Image Processing  Uses OpenCV libraries  Filters RGB values  Detects center coordinates of blobs  Multitouch Driver  Sends single and multitouch events to Ubuntu

 Delay and Frame Rate Average delay of milliseconds Average rate of frames per second SDP 12  Total Expenses  Laser pointers x 4 = $48.00  Camera x 2 = $60.00  IR Longpass Filter x 2 = $24.00  Pico Projector = $  Physical assembly = $25.00  Total = $  Cost to Reproduce L3PT  Laser pointers x 2 = $24.00  Camera = $30.00  IR Longpass Filter = $12.00  Pico Projector = $  Physical assembly = $25.00  Total = $ Acknowledgements Team Jackson would like to thank Professor Robert Jackson, Jr., Professor Russell Tessier, Professor Paul Siqueira, Professor Doug Looze, Professor Do-Hoon Kwon and Fran Caron. Speed of Image Processing IR Filter Characteristics Budget Design Challenges IR Longpass filter Filters visible light Laser pointers operate at 532 nm 4 % filter transmission percent Simplifies image processing for blob detection  Multitouch Driver Switched from Windows 7 to Ubuntu Much more extensive support and documentation  Image Processing Originally used algorithms we designed Changed to using OpenCV libraries Better performance and stability  Input Device Selection Originally used IR LED pens Moved to using green laser pointers More comfortable and efficient design for the user Laser pointer wavelength falls in side lobe of filter response
