3 The design of the work-integrated learning of students/learners (the experiential learning as part of the integrated programme curriculum). Curriculum development Supportive client-base Logistical arrangements

4 Work-integrated learning Curriculum development Cultivation of a supportive client-base that would offer sufficient and appropriate work placements (or community-service settings); and that would ensure continued programme relevance through advisory input. Logistical arrangements

5 Supportive client-base Work-integrated learning Curriculum development The logistical organisation, co-ordination and assessment of the experiential learning/training of students/learners.

6 Success of the experiential learning component(s) of a co-operative education programme is dependent on a number of key issues, e.g.:  The experiential learning curriculum and guidelines (courseware).  Registration for experiential learning and where needed placement assistance.  Orientation (briefing and objective setting) prior to commencement of experiential learning.  Planning and contracting of an individual student’s experiential learning.

7 Success of experiential learning … key issues continues:  Appointment of a work-place mentor (supervisor of experiential learning).  Monitoring (visitation) of progress (formative assessment).  Summative assessment of experiential learning and feedback.  Facilitated reflection on experiential learning or debriefing of students.  Evaluation of the completed experiential learning and the attainment of academic credit.
