  It is polite to shake hands.  In the Francophone south, close friends may embrace while brushing cheeks and kissing the air along with a handshake.  In the Anglophone north, close friends have a unique handshake in which, as they pull their hands back they snap the other person’s middle finger with their thumb.  As a sign of respect men often lower their head and avert their eyes when greeting an elder or a superior and elders are greeted first.  Some Muslims will not shake hands across genders  Women tend not to look the other person in the eye even if it is another woman  If you are invited to a Cameroonian’s home, bring fruit, whiskey, or wine to the host. Do not bring wine if your host is Muslim.  Cameroonians are somewhat formal and believe good table manners demonstrate respect  Many Cameroonians eat with their hands, although foreign guests may be offered cutlery.   With foreigners the most common greeting is the handshake with a smile.  When shaking hands between themselves Ghanaians will hold the right hand in the normal manner but will then twist and click each other’s middle finger. Unless you are experienced it is best to stick to a normal handshake!  Christians will generally shake hands between the sexes; practising Muslims often will not shake hands with people of the opposite sex.  Dress well; Ghanaians place a lot of emphasis on how people dress. You may need to remove your shoes.  Ghanaians table manners are relatively formal.  Ghanaians always want to protect their own and others’ face as well as maintain harmonious relationships. As a result they tend to use proverbs, wise sayings, analogies readily. Ghanaian Ettiquette
