General Business Etiquette 102 Eye Contact & Handshake Focused eye contact displays confidence on your part, it also helps you understand what the other person is really saying verbally and plays a large part in conveying interest in the person and conversation. A vital component you need to bring to any interpersonal encounter is a firm handshake. Those few seconds you "shake" can empower or weaken a relationship. Hold the person's hand firmly. Shake web-to-web, three times maximum. Maintain constant eye contact.
