School Culture and High School Redesign Stories of the MCHS journey (so far)

Memorial Composite  MCHS in a nutshell  Culture first, then procedures and structures  We do some things REALLY well (and still have lots of work to do in other areas)

Relax the Grip - Letting go in the best interest of student-learning  What are you ready to let go of for the sake of learning? What are you determined to hang on to?  Traditions (teacher-student & admin- teacher)  Belief structures  Timelines  Classroom structures and supporting resiliency

Professional Growth and reflection - How can I do this better?  How do you best facilitate student learning in your school?  Collaboration  Unpacking the Curriculum  Formative/Summative Assessment  Teacher Reflection and the Learning Coach Role

Building a Leadership Team - they’re already leading; point them somewhere!  How do you start to bring about cultural change and keep the momentum?  Know your staff!  Change can’t come only from admin!  Strategic professional development  Identify your superstars, backbones, mediocres and what strategies can you use with each?

Whittaker’s Teacher-Types

Now What? Next steps in our journey  “Fierce Conversations”  Continued collaboration (both embedded and off-site)  Reflect and Celebrate!  Choose your language carefully  Choose your PD carefully

Thoughts  Anything on which you would like feedback from the group? 
