Red Sea Geography The Red Sea is an extension of the Indian Ocean, lying between the Arabian Peninsula and Africa. The only natural connection between the Red Sea and the rest of the Indian Ocean is Bab el Mandeb, a narrow strait that transitions into the Gulf of Aden. Prepared by Abeer Alhabash

Map of the Red Sea and surrounding region Prepared by Abeer Alhabash

A shark has fins and a streamlined body that help it swim through water. It has gills, which take in oxygen directly out of the water. Because of its gills, sharks can stay underwater and not have to come to the surface to breathe. Sharks also have a tremendous number of sharp teeth, which make them fierce predators. Stream lined body for swimming. Fins to propel through the water. Sharp teeth. Gills to breath under water. Prepared by Abeer Alhabash

Some stingray adaptations include a flat body, the location of the mouth and strong senses. The flat body of the stingray allows it to swim on the ocean floor or bury itself in the sand where it lurks for food, which is why the mouth is located on the underside of the body. Prepared by Abeer Alhabash

The eyes of the stingray are placed on the top of the body so that while it lies in wait for prey in the sand, it can still see above itself. Prepared by Abeer Alhabash

The ears, also located on top of the head, are very tiny holes that house incredibly sensitive hairs. These hairs detect vibrations. The stingray relies almost entirely on its sense of smell to sniff out food. Prepared by Abeer Alhabash

Sea urchins have several adaptations to help them survive. To protect themselves from predators, sea urchins will react immediately if something sharp touches their shell and they will point all of their spines towards the area being poked. They are also light-sensitive. They are nocturnal. Prepared by Abeer Alhabash

Also, sea urchins to move their spines in reaction to shadows. In order to protect themselves from being swept away from the powerful ocean currents and waves, sea urchins lodge themselves into holes or crevasses. Finally sea urchins, somewhat like starfish, have a certain regenerative ability. Prepared by Abeer Alhabash

They are marine animals with a leathery skin and an elongated body.marine animals Sea cucumbers are found on the sea floor worldwide. Prepared by Abeer Alhabash

Gull Black-headed Gull Prepared by Abeer Alhabash

Red Sea coral reef The Red Sea contains numerous offshore reefs: Included in this catch-all category are atoll-like rings of coral, elongated coral ridges that rise abruptly from considerable depths on both sides, and peculiar complex reef patterns of odd shapes. Prepared by Abeer Alhabash
