PREPARATION FOR CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS 2012 FOR COACHES AND JUDGES 1

 Section 5   Access to the Competition Floor Near the Apparatus a) One coach is permitted with the athlete competing and one coach with the athlete who is on deck. A coach must have the accreditation on him/herself. b) On Uneven Bars, two coaches are allowed on the floor to adjust the bars, set the mats and the board. 2

3  ADD c) Once the green light is on: On Vault, one coach is allowed by the table and one by the vault number. On Uneven Bars, one coach is allowed near the apparatus to spot and remove the board. Permission may be granted by the D1 judge for a second person to be near the apparatus to remove the board if spotting is required for an element performed immediately after the mount. On Floor, two coaches are allowed if mats have to be moved in different corners in a short period of time.  For all apparatus, only one coach may talk to the athlete when two coaches are allowed on the floor.

 MODIFICATION d) In case of infraction, the extra coach will be given a verbal warning by the Canadian Head Judge, the Competition Head Judge, the WAG PD or the WAG Floor Manager.  The warning will be recorded by the Competition Head Judge. On the second offense, the coach will be required to pay a $20.00 fine immediately and correct the situation, or leave the competition floor immediately.  On the third offense, the coach will be required to pay a $40.00 fine immediately and correct the situation or leave the competition floor immediately. The fine will increase by $20.00 each time. The increase is to be applied consecutively over the entire duration of the competition, i.e. over three days at Elite Canada and five days at the Canadian Championships.  At any time, should a coach refuse to pay the fine, his/her accreditation will be removed by the WAG PD or designate. 4

EQUIPMENT SPECIFICATIONS Novice and Open:  V, UB, BB: the athlete is allowed one of the following options for landing of the vault / dismount: 1 x 10 cm supplementary mat (as per FIG), or 2 x 10 cm supplementary mats stacked on top of each other, or 1 x 20 cm safety mat (crash mat).  NEW - On V, an additional 5 cm mat may be used on top of the mandatory 10 cm supplementary mat (total of 15 cm).  On UB, a 10 cm supplementary mat or 20 cm safety mat may be used under the rails during the entire routine. However, a gymnast cannot ask to raise the UB in order to use supplementary matting under the rails. On UB, if a safety mat is slid in for release elements, it must be done according to the rules. 7

EQUIPMENT SPECIFICATIONS Junior and Senior:  On V, UB and BB: 1 x 10 cm supplementary mat (as per FIG) for landing.  NEW On V, an additional 5 cm mat may be used on top of the mandatory 10 cm supplementary mat (total of 15 cm).  On UB, a 20 cm safety mat can be slid in for D+ release elements according to the rule (2 moves preceding and following the element) (VICO).  On FX, a 5 cm or 10 cm supplementary mat can be used for landing of acro lines. The mat(s) can stay in place for the entire routine, be moved or removed. (VICO). 8

9 On UB - For release elements (D+ elements, C for Novice), Athletes have 2 options for safety: U se of a 10 sting or 20 cm safety mat slid in (the mat can be in place for 2 elements preceding and following the release element); The Gymnova 10 cm mat is currently allowed because it has handles and is easier to slide in and out; OR A coach may be in a position to spot. Junior and Senior: Athletes must choose one of the 2 above options – either a mat slid under the rails OR coach in a position to spot. Novice and Open: Athletes can use both options, ie, coach in a position to spot, while standing on the 20 cm safety mat since 20 cm mats can remain under the bars during the entire routine. The only restriction is that the board cannot be placed on top of a 20 cm mat.

 Deduction in Case of Use of Un-permitted Additional Matting on UB - by D1 Judge If the safety mat is slid in, the 0.50 deduction will be applied if the 20 cm safety mat is left in place, immobile too long - maximum 2 moves preceding and following each acceptable element. For Junior and Senior, there is a 0.50 deduction if the 20 cm safety mat is under the rail and no D, E, F or G element release element is performed. 10

BOARDS: GYMNOVA Canada offers 2 different boards: Soft and Hard. For GCG events, boards will be made available according to the FIG rules. Vault: 2 boards available – Hard and Soft UB and BB: only 1 board – Soft 11

Placement of the Board on Uneven Bars and Beam  On UB and BB, the board must be placed on the 10 cm supplementary mat if the mount and dismount are performed on the same side.  On UB, placement of the board on the 20 cm safety mat is not authorized, even if a D+ release element (C for Novice) is performed at the beginning of the routine.  Novice and Open: if the gymnast mounts and dismounts on the same side and uses a 20 cm safety mat for the dismount, the safety mat must be placed after the athlete has mounted. 12
