1 st Amendment – Neapolitan Everyone has the right to freedom of speech, press, religion, assembly, and petition. Relationship: This amendment has multiple rights and Neapolitan has multiple flavors. 5.
2 nd Amendment – Bubble Gum The right to bear arms - People can carry a gun if they want. Relationship: Bubble Gum Bubble Gun 6.6.
3 rd Amendment – Coffee Quartering of soldiers - If a solider showed up on your doorstep you don’t have to house them if they ask. Relationship: If a soldier asks to stay the night you don’t have to house them and you definitely don’t have to offer them your coffee flavored ice cream. 7.
4 th Amendment – Vanilla Search and arrest - people have the right to not have unreasonable searches and seizures of their homes, papers and persons. Relationship: People don’t have the right to seize your vanilla ice cream without permission and reason. 8.
5 th Amendment – Chocolate Right to a criminal case - citizens that are accused of crimes have basic rights such as they cannot be tried twice for the same crime. Relationship: If you eat chocolate ice cream and don’t like it, you don’t have to try it again. 9.
6 th Amendment – Cake Batter The right to fair trial - people who are accused of crimes have the right to a quick and speedy trial. They also have the right to a lawyer and the right to question any witnesses. Relationship: You are entitled to a fair and speedy trial even if you steal someone’s cake batter ice cream. 10.
7 th Amendment – Coconut Citizens have the right to demand a jury trial to settle disputes. Relationship: You have to hear both sides of the story if someone stole your coconut ice cream. 11.
8 th Amendment – Strawberry There can’t be excessive bails, fines or cruel and unusual punishment inflicted on the person being charged. Relationship: You can’t be put to death for something as silly as stealing your friend’s strawberry ice cream. 12.
9 th Amendment – Moose Tracks The government must respect all the rights of Americans including the ones not listed in the Constitution. Relationship: The government is not allowed to violate your right to eat moose tracks ice cream. 13.
10 th Amendment – Cotton Candy The states’ rights - states can keep any powers that the constitution gives to the federal government, and add more laws if they are constitutional. Relationship: Any state can make a law that you can eat cotton candy ice cream because that is constitutional. 14.
11 th Amendment – Chocolate Chip People cannot sue a state in federal court if they are citizens of another state or of another country. Relationship: People cannot sue chocolate chip ice cream if they don’t have that flavor. 15.
12 th Amendment – Banana Split The vice president will be picked by the president. In the original Constitution, the candidate who finishes second automatically becomes vice president, but that doesn’t apply anymore. Relationship: You cannot split (as in banana split) a ticket by voting for one president and a vice president not picked by the president you voted for. 16.
13 th Amendment – Pistachio No person in the United States shall be kept as a slave (accept for a legal punishment or crime). Relationship: Anyone who believes slavery is a good thing is nuts, as in pistachio nuts. 17.
14 th Amendment – Rocky Road All Americans even former slaves have the right to be treated as citizens, which means all states half to respect the rights of all citizens. Relationship: It was a rocky road for the slaves to get their freedom and now there finally free. 18.
15 th Amendment – Rainbow States cannot deny the right to vote because of race, color, or former slave status. Relationship: Just like rainbow ice cream, the United States is made up of people of all different colors who all have the same rights. 19.
16 th Amendment – Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Congress taxes citizens based on their income. Relationship: You have to pay taxes on your dough, as in cookie dough. 20.
17 th Amendment – Lemon Senate members are elected by voters. Relationship: lemon is sour just like some senate members. 21.
18 th Amendment – Rum Raisin Prohibited the making and selling of alcohol. Relationship: rum raisin has alcohol so there for there was no rum raisin any more. 22.
19 th Amendment – Vanilla Fudge Ripple The government cannot deny people the right to vote based on their sex. Relationship: Both men and woman can eat vanilla fudge ripple ice cream. 23.
20 th Amendment – Mint Chocolate Chip Establishes the beginning and ending of the terms of the elected federal offices. The amendment also addresses special situations such as when there are no president elect. Relationship: mint chocolate has two parts, mint and chocolate, and so does this amendment (term dates and special situations). 24.
21 st Amendment – Cinnamon Bun This is when the 18 th amendment was removed from constitution. Relationship: You can now legally have cinnamon bun ice cream with your alcoholic drink. 25.
22 nd Amendment – Oreo ® Presidents cannot serve two more then two terms in office. Relationship: An Oreo only has two parts to it just like a president can only serve two terms. 26.
23 rd Amendment – Brownie Batter The District of Colombia has the right to vote for a president and vice president. Relationship: The brownie is the most important part of the ice cream just like The District of Columbia is the most important part of our country. 27.
24 th Amendment – Superman No state can take away the right to vote from someone because of failure to pay a voting tax. Relationship: Superman can still vote even if he didn’t pay a tax. 28.
25 th Amendment – Blue Moon What happens when the president or vice president dies. Relationship: The deaths of presidents do not happen very often just like a blue moon. 29.
26 th Amendment – Butter Pecan Citizens over the age of 18 years old have the right to vote. Relationship: Once you are 18 years old, you can vote while eating your butter pecan ice cream. 30.
27 th Amendment – Fudge Brownie Congress cannot change the salary of senators or representatives while they’re in congress. Relationship: Fudge brownie is sweet, so it guarantees that the people in congress don’t get a sweet deal. 31.
Glossary Petition: A formally drawn request, often bearing the names of a number of those making the request, that is addressed to a person or group of persons in authority or power, soliciting some favor, right, mercy, or other benefit: a petition for clemency; a petition for the repeal of an unfair law. Assembly: An assembling or coming together of a number of persons, usually for a particular purpose. Quartering: The act of a person or thing that quarters. Seizures: Examination of a person's property by law enforcement officials investigating a crime and the taking of items as potential evidence. Accused: Charged with a crime, wrongdoing, fault, etc. Disputes: To engage in argument or debate. Excessive: Going beyond the usual, necessary, or proper limit or degree; Sue: To institute a process in law against; bring a civil action against: to sue someone for damages. 32.
Candidate: A person who seeks an office, honor, etc. Race: A group of people related by common ancestry distinguished from others by physical characteristics. Income: The monetary payment received for goods or services, or from other sources, as rents or investments. Sex: Either the male or female division of a species, especially as differentiated with reference to the reproductive functions. Amendment: An alteration of or addition to a motion, bill, constitution, etc. Representatives: A person who represents a constituency or community in a legislative body, especially a member of the U.S. House of Representatives or a lower house in certain state legislatures. Senators: A member of a senate. Salary: The amount of money someone gets in a year. Prohibited: To forbid (an action, activity, etc.) by authority or law. 33.
