All Japanese projects need to be followed up for at least 5 years to secure the sustainability of projects together with Sudanese counterparts. Japanese ODA is supported by the Japanese tax payers while it is implemented in the recipient countries. Therefore, Japan’s ODA requires 100% transparency, accountability and compliance of its projects to the people of Japan and Sudan. Japan’s Approach is… Japan has provided “Official Development Assistance (ODA)” to Sudan, which has amounted to over US$ 1.2 billion since 2005 through both bilateral and multilateral channels. It includes 56 General Grant Assistance Projects, 53 Grant Assistance for Grassroots and Human Security Projects (GGP), Technical Assistance, dispatch of more than 600 Japanese Experts and 23 Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) and acceptance of around 1,450 Sudanese trainees in Japan. In addition to the provision of the ODA, our partnership has been extended into the fields of culture, sports, education, trade and investment Japan regards Sudan as one of the most important countries for achieving the peace and stability in Africa and the world. Japan recently contributed US$ 500,000 to the AU High- level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) in March, This is a part of Japan’s additional funding to the AU Peace Fund. Japan is the second largest provider of the assessed contributions (10.8% in 2013) to the UN peacekeeping budget which includes that of UNAMID.
