Feb- April HE update in registration. Preparation for and visit to UCAS Convention in Exeter. May Course search is launched online for 2013 entry. June Higher Education support and information day.

September Students get UCAS grades. September- January Students work with tutor and subject teachers to make final choices. Complete personal statement. Students submit their form which gets checked and forwarded to UCAS. Support with interview preparation.

 Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary medicine and science and for all courses at Oxford and Cambridge University.  School- September 28 th UCAS- October 15 th  All other courses except what is listed above.  School- November 7 th UCAS- January 15 th

 Degree courses BA/BSc/BEd (Usually 3yrs.) MChem/MEng (4 yrs)  Vocational degrees – HND and Foundation  Medical related courses (medicine, nursing, Vet Sci, Physiotherapy, OT etc)  Art, photography, textiles – Foundation  Performing Arts courses  National Diploma  College courses – HNCs, vocational

 What do I really enjoy studying?  What am I good at?  What expertise / experiences do I have?  What careers am I interested in?  Teacher directed or Autonomous Learner  Examinations or Continuous Assessment

 Single Subject  Joint – 2 separate but equal subjects  Combined – 2/3 or more subjects  Modular – Separate units = degree  Vocational – e.g. accounting, business, medicine, law – few offer full qualifications  Sandwich - 4 year course with year in industry

 Location? – city, town, rural - cost of living  Campus – self contained or centrally located  Distance from Dorchester?  Accommodation – hall for all 1 st years?  Status – see Times/Guardian guides  Quality of Teaching  Overseas – apply direct to the universities.

 Facilities e.g. internet, sport, library  Opportunities available  Student profile  Size  Collegiate e.g. Oxbridge, Durham, Lancaster, Lampeter  Personal experience – friends, relations, teachers, OPEN DAYS & VISITS

 A great way to experience what the university feels like.  Ask students and staff questions directly.  Don’t do the grand tour of UK.  Go to around 3 open days.  You will be invited to most places for an interview so you will get to visit them all.

 Check GCSE requirements  Offers can be made as points or grades, with particular grades needed in specific subjects.  Offers can include an AS taken in year 12.  Some very competitive courses may state that no resits can be taken, or specific modules are needed.  Entrance exams or further exams (eg STEP)

 Student’s own work  Work with tutor, several drafts  Formal language, 2/3 about subject  Interest in subject beyond syllabus  Relevant skills from job/hobbies

The Form  ‘Apply’ on the UCAS website  Apply for up to 5 courses-range of grades  Parents can be named as a contact  Submit by deadlines in booklet Other Preparation  Interview preparation  Entrance exams-students must tell us!

 The whole form is checked by the tutor.  The form is submitted electronically and in paper form to the year office.  Pay UCAS electronically for administration.  The form is checked by the central team; it can be returned.  UCAS process the form, and we wait!
