Counseling

Brainstorming Session What does the word mean to you? Counseling

Nutrition Counseling The interpersonal relationship is the most important aspect of counseling.

Personality Styles Understanding our own style; strengths and weaknesses Understanding the clients style; and approaches to use based on their style 4 Styles –  Director/behavioral  Thinker/cognitive  Socializer/affective  Relater/interpersonal

Personality Style and Type What factors shape our personality?

1) Personality Types/ Styles AJ, a 55 year old male, is present with type 2 diabetes. As he is walking through your office, you put out your hand and he grasps it firmly and smiles as you introduce yourself. During your conversation he is very polite and offers short responses to your questions, but does comment on how his wife should be here to take care of the meal. He maintains eye contact throughout the session. What personality style do you believe he is?

Questions Is this person self contained, well organized or detailed?  Thinker  Director Is this person direct? Fast paced, assertive, risk taker, extroverted  Director  Socializer Or open or people oriented, casual or flexible?  Socializer  Relational Or indirect? Slower paced, quiet, non confrontational, introverted  Thinker  Relational
