Know who to contact if you get stuck. Have written your first message to your mentor By the end of the today you will be able to:

Section One Knowing you, Knowing me!

Activity: Great Expectations

True or False? 1.It is best to have no expectations about ementoring, that way you can’t get let down. 2.Your mentor is not there to help you with your homework. 3.You should write a message to your mentor AT LEAST twice a day. 4.By the time you finish ementoring your mentor should know everything about you, even very personal information and vice versa. 5.Your mentor is likely to be quite old and won’t really understand you. 6.Your mentor is a great source of information and can give you lots of advice and support.

What’s In It For Me? Ementoring will… Give you someone to talk to about your future Help improve writing and IT skills Help build your confidence Help you to think about your next steps – education or work – and how to get there! Allow you more time to think about questions than you would have with face-to-face mentoring

Your ementoring coordinator Matches you with your mentor Looks after your scheme First point of contact if you: –have problems or concerns about your mentor –want to talk about your place on the programme. Who’s Who?

Brightside Education charity develop the Bright Links website Brightside provide online resources, tools and teaching resources Brightside provide technical support for problems with the website Contact (on the website) Who’s Who?

Who Else Is Involved? Your mentor: An enthusiastic person who has volunteered to help you Can help you think about your future plans and share their experiences You! You are taking part in the Bright Links ementoring programme It is your responsibility to keep in regular communication with your mentor and make the most of their knowledge and guidance

Protect yourself! Don’t give your address or phone number to your mentor Don’t meet your mentor unless arranged by your coordinator Automatic filters, designed to protect you

Confidentiality Statement The relationship with your mentor is confidential, EXCEPT where your mentor becomes aware that you may be at risk of being harmed. In this situation, your mentor will seek advice about how to help protect you. All communication on the ementoring website is monitored by Brightside and your coordinator
