About the National Student Survey (NSS) A national survey of all undergraduate final year HE and FE students Introduced in 2005 Conducted by Ipsos Mori, mainly online survey with some telephone interviews and postal responses 23 core agree/disagree questions across six themes, plus additional optional questions chosen by the institution and opportunity for open ended responses Can compare performance against other institutions Widely recognised as a key measure of student satisfaction, results are highly visible and often reported in the media. In 2013, national response rate of 69%, around 304,000 respondents

Headline Findings Overall Satisfaction now 88%, +2% from Increase in overall scores across five of the six survey sections. Increase in % agree ratings for 17 of the 23 core questions, including areas of already high satisfaction: Staff are good at explaining things (91% Agree, +2% from 2012) Staff are enthusiastic about what they are teaching (87%, +1% from 2012) Improvements in the scores for all five questions relating to Assessment and Feedback.
