Margaret Beale Spencer Professor of Urban Education in the Department of Comparative Human Development at the University of Chicago Director of Pennsylvania’s Center of Health Achievement Neighborhood Growth and Ethnic Studies (CHANGE) Phenomenological Variant of Ecological Systems Theory (PVEST)- the foundation for her gender and race-ethnicity focused research emphasis, which addresses resiliency, identity, and competence formation process for diverse youth in the united states and abroad.

Identity Model A child’s psychology development and racial identity and it’s implications during childhood, focusing on preschool and childhood. Racial awareness subsequently influences racial preferences and attitudes but, is also developmentally and culturally influenced.

What Children Think The white race is the ‘prefered’ race, children mostly believe that people who are white are more ‘beautiful’ and ‘nice’ and people of color are the ‘bad’ and ‘ugly’ race.

The Doll Experiment

Racial Identity and Education During her studies she found that children of color who were having trouble with their racial identity, also had troubles in their education.
