The University of Texas at Dallasutdallas.edu Questions Answered How do I start a funding search? Where should I look for funding? Is there a way funding options can come to me? What about limited submissions? So, I have funding proposal, now what? – What if it is a foundation?

The University of Texas at Dallasutdallas.edu Who Are We? Beth Keithly – Associate Director of Research Development Jonathan Spencer – Grants & Contracts Specialist in the Office of Sponsored Projects 3

The University of Texas at Dallasutdallas.edu Starting A Funding Search Brainstorm: If you haven't already, jot down what you'd like to research or study in the next 12 months and outline some attainable goals for that work. Identify what kind of support you need to make it happen. Read Acknowledgements: Look in the acknowledgements of papers written on your topic. See if the author received funding from an institution that may also support your work. Network: Networking has obvious career advantages. And, it can also help you find grants. Use any professional meeting or conference as an opportunity to uncover funding opportunities. Identify and Select: Examine print and electronic funding sources for both pubic and private funding sources. 5

The University of Texas at Dallasutdallas.edu Limited Submissions L imited submissions announcements restrict the number of applications or proposals that an institution may submit for consideration. This requires that campuses screen potential submissions to determine which will go forward to the sponsor. Policy change – starting Sept. 1, a one page letter of intent will be due via Research Explorer. If necessary, a pre- proposal may also be required. Funding opportunities, internal and external deadlines are available at – This list is not exhaustive. If you find a limited submission opportunity not on the list, contact the Office of Research Development. 10
