BASELINE DATA What stood out in the data probes worksheets as areas for improvement for students with IEPs?

Baseline Data Details Thirteen (13) students participated in the 2011 ‘Jump Start Summer Academy’ SY – 8 th Grade Students w/Disabilities – 25.40% met standards in Math, 54.60% did not – 6.98% met standards in Reading, 90.72% did not SY – 24% of 9 th grade students had been retained at least once

GOALS OUTCOMES EVALUATION What we did and our results

Goal One: All ninth grade students with disabilities will be academically and socially prepared for 10 th grade on schedule with their cohort.

Goal One Data Targets Percentage of proficiency will increase for students with disabilities (growth model). 9 th Grade students will be provided the necessary instruction and support to gain the credits and requirements for 10 th grade/End of Course grades and credits/Increase in proficiency or mastery

Goal One Strategies Freshman Seminar to focus on learning strategies, organizational skills, sense of belonging, etc. Alternate programming (academic coaching teams) Double dosing of math and reading for freshmen Alternate means to gain course credits (PLATO, On Target WV, Tech Academy, Virtual Schools, summer school) Supplemental Reading programs (READ 180, System 44) Work readiness/work-based learning Special education co-teaching support in summer school

Goal One Implementation Steps Freshman Seminar – study skills, goal setting, social skills First semester “catch up” courses for Math and Reading/second semester Algebra & English Before/after school tutoring, summer school Personalized summer school schedule, provision of transportation Core team instructors for at-risk students Career/vocational courses that relate to adult success

GOAL ONE RESULTS What are our results at the end of one year? Where do we stand now with our progress? What conclusions have we identified?

Freshman Academy FY 12 – All incoming 9 th grade students and teachers (either English 9 or homeroom) were trained in organizational skills for classroom success by Weber and Associates. FY 12 – Ravenswood High -Three (s) students earned elective credit for Learning Skills class FY 13 – All students with disabilities will be provided binders and organization skills training with additional learning skills and organizational skills for incoming 9 th grade students

Double Dosing Math/Reading Students with disabilities reading significantly below grade level and/or below mastery in Math or Reading will be provided supplementary instruction for elective credit FY12 – Ravenswood High 30 students received direct, special education services in Math, 28 students received direct services in Reading

Credit Recovery FY 12 – Ravenswood High – 26 SWDs participated in tutoring and/or summer school Ravenswood High: three (3) SWD recovered credit using PLATO Ripley High: 15 SWD recovered credits Summer 2012 – Special Education Co-Teacher will provide individualized support for students with disabilities enrolled in summer school

Work-Based Learning FY 12 – Ripley High School – 47 students were enrolled in career technical training at the Roane- Jackson Technical Center FY 12 – Ravenswood High School – 8 students were enrolled in career technical training at the Roane-Jackson Technical Center FY 12 – 13 Students with disabilities participated in paid work-based learning experiences in community settings FY 12 – 11 Students with disabilities participated in paid work-based learning experiences in school settings

Goal Two: Provide incoming freshmen social support to build positive relationships with older students Parents and freshmen students will have a better understanding of curriculum, facilities, safety and discipline, and extra-curricular activities Incoming 9 th grade students with disabilities will establish ongoing peer relationships with mentors

Goal Two Strategies Provide online information about high school expectations, behaviors, attendance, courses of study and extra-curricular activities. Parent and student visits/meetings. Provide face to face activities between eighth grade students with disabilities and high school mentors

Goal Two Implementation Steps High school students create a web page about activities, clubs, classes, grades (Edline), etc. Plan/coordinate activities beginning spring semester of eighth grade year with 10 th or 11 th grade mentors (e.g., socials, school visits) Week long summer academy (academic tutoring team building activities)

Information for Students & Parents Each school has a web page which includes student rights and responsibilities, attendance requirements, graduation requirements, etc.

Information for Students & Parents February 15 – 16,2012 – Middle and high school counselors – meeting with eighth grade students regarding schedules, credits, etc. February 21, 2012 – Parent Night – Automated calling system utilized by counselors to invite parents March 23, 2012 – High School Principal Presentation for Eighth Grade Students at RMS March 27 – 28, 2012 Move Up Day with paired mentors March 2012 – Eighth grade tour of Roane-Jackson Technical Center

Jump Start Program Thirteen at-risk students participated in the Summer 2011 Jump Start Program. Five of the thirteen students were students with disabilities. February 13, 2012 – Jump Start informational meeting with 8 th grade students Jump Start Application/Registration given to all eighth grade students during Move Up Day
