Osmosis Osmosis is a special type of diffusion. When water molecules are moving from a high concentration to an area of low concentration, it is called Osmosis. Facilitated Diffusion Facilitated diffusion is similar to diffusion in that it take no energy from the cell. Some molecules are too large to move across the cell membrane and need help from carrier molecules or channel proteins.
