The History of the Internet and Computers By: Jacqulyn Garrett

Early Start(: Computers have been around quite a few years. Around 1951 the first computer was bought by a business firm. Computers have changed so rapidly many people can not keep up with the changes. Theses changes have occurred so rapidly that many people do not know how our modern computer got its start.

History of Personal Computers A personal computer is one intended for individual use, as opposed to a mainframe computer where the end user’s requests are filtered through operating staff, or a time sharing system in which one large processor is shared by many individuals. After the development of the microprocessor, individual personal computers were low enough in cost that they eventually became affodable consumer goods. Early personal computers generally called microcomputers- were sold often in electronic kit form and in limited numbers, and were of interest mostly to hobbyists and technicians.

What exactly is a Computer??? Is a programmable machine that receives input, stores and manipulates data//information, and provides output in a useful format.

The first Computing Machine Since ancient times, people have had ways to deal with data and numbers. Early people tied knots in rope and carved marks on clay tablets to keep tract of livestock and trade. Some people considered the 5000 year old ABACUS---a frame with beads strung on wires to be the first true computing aid.

What is internet?? A global network connecting millions of computers. More than 100 countries are linked into exchanges of data, news and opinions.

History of the internet The internet was the result of some visionary thinking by people in the early 1960’s who saw great potential value in allowing computers to share information on research and development in scientific and military fields!

When was the internet created? The internet has changed the way we do things it has become so much a part of our lives that it is nearly impossible to imagine living without it. 1960’s

Internet The internet timeline begins in 1962, before the word ‘internet’ is invented. The world’s 10,000 computers primitive, although they cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. They have only a few thousand words of magnetic core memory, and programming them is far from easy
