10 Lines Used in a Blueprint LineNameExplanation Object Dark heavy line that denotes the edge of an object. Hidden Dark heavy dash that denotes an edge behind or inside the object. Center A line that is thinner than an object line with a dash in the center of the line to denote the center of the part or circle. Extension A thin line extending an edge from the object for dimensions to touch. Dimension A set of arrows pointing to the extension line with a dimension in the middle. Cutting Plan The heaviest line on a drawing showing where a section is to be cut out of the object. Section Thin lines at a diagonal showing the cut portion of an object. Leader A straight line with an arrow extending from it to point to a dimension or note. Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Charts There are different types of charts: Bill of Materials, Tap Sizes, Drill Sizes, and Feed and Cut Rates. The Bill of Materials will give you part sizes, types of material, and finishes for all the different parts. The other charts give information on sizes needed to make a part or standards used in the manufacturing. 20 PART NUMBER QUANITYNAMESIZE 11BASE¾ X 2 ½ X 5 21FIX JAW¾ X2 ½ X2 31MOVABLE JAW¾ X2 ½ X2 41FRONT JAW¾ X2 ½ X2 51SCREW1 ¼ DIA X 3 ¾ 61HANDLE⅜ DIA X 3 72JAW FACES½ X 1 X 2 ½ 81JAW LOCK⅛ X ¾ X 1 ½ 97FASTNER¼ –28 BOLTS X ¾ LONG 101SETSCREW (NOT SHOWN) ⅛ SETSCREW X ¾ LONG Thread Size Drill SizeDecimal Equivalen t National ¼ - 20# Course ¼ -28#30.230Fine 5/ F0.2570Course 5/ I0.2720Fine 3/8 -165/ Course 3/8 - 24Q0.3320Fine 7/ U0.3320Course 7/ / Fine ½ / Course ½ / Fine 9/ / Course 9/ / Fine Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.
