Correcting Tracings for the Lumbo-Sacral A-P Control LSO

Correcting Tracings  Given tracings and an orthometry form you will prepare a “blueprint” to be used when fabricating the LSO

Correcting Tracings  You will begin by correcting the pelvic and thoracic bands

Correcting Tracings  Both bands are corrected the same way so begin with the pelvic band

Determining Band Lengths  Locate the circumference of the pelvis at the ASIS level on your orthometry form  Divide that number in half Example: 35  2=17 1/2 ¸

Determining Band Lengths  If the original circumference is 36” or under, add 1-1/2” to the result of the divided circumference to determine the corrected length of your band Example: 35”2 17 1/2” 17 1/2” + 1 1/2”=19” ¸

Determining Band Lengths  If the original circumference is over 36”, add 2” to the result of the divided circumference to determine the corrected length of your band Example: 39”219 1/2” 19 1/2” + 2”=21 1/2” ¸

Adjusting Band Tracing  Divide the corrected length in half  Using a flexible tape measure following the traced line, measure the resultant distance from the center line to both ends of the tracing and mark

Adjusting Band Tracing  Connect those marks with a straight line (transverse line)  Using a 90 triangle, draw a line perpendicular to the transverse line through the original center line

Adjusting Band Tracing  Hold a ruler at 90 degrees to the adjusted center line and slide it down the line until the 2” mark just touches the curved tracing on both sides  Mark the points at which the rule touches the tracing 2”

Adjusting Band Tracing  Draw a line across the tracing at that position. 2”

Adjusting Band Tracing  Draw a line across the tracing at that position  Your completed corrected tracing will appear similar to this  Repeat the same procedures for the other band

Adjusting Paraspinal Bar Tracing  On the paraspinal tracing the S marks the inferior angle of the scapula  Using a flexible tape as before, follow the curves and mark the distance between the inferior angle of the scapula and the sacro- coccyx junction as indicated on the orthometry form S Sacro-coccyx junction Inferior angle of the scapula

Adjusting Paraspinal Bar Tracing  The lower mark is referred to as the corrected inferior mark S Sacro-coccyx junction Inferior angle of the scapula (corrected inferior mark)

Adjusting Paraspinal Bar Tracing  Measure 3/4” up from this mark to determine the adjusted inferior level  This mark represents the bottom of the pelvic band S Sacro-coccyx junction Inferior angle of the scapula (corrected inferior mark) Adjusted inferior level

Adjusting Paraspinal Bar Tracing  Measure 1 1/4” below the inferior scapular angle to determine the adjusted superior level  This mark represents the top of the thoracic band S 3/4” Adjusted inferior level Sacro-coccyx junction (corrected inferior mark) Adjusted superior level 1 1/4”

Adjusting Paraspinal Bar Tracing  Measure 1 1/2” below the corrected superior level to determine the thoracic band bend mark  This mark represents the bottom of the thoracic band S Inferior angle of the scapula 3/4” Adjusted inferior level Adjusted superior level 1 1/4” 1 1/2” Thoracic band bend mark Sacro-coccyx junction (corrected inferior mark)

Adjusting Paraspinal Bar Tracing  Measure 1 1/2” up from the adjusted inferior level to determine the pelvic band bend mark  This mark represents the top of the pelvic band S Inferior angle of the scapula 3/4” Adjusted inferior level 1 1/2” Pelvic band bend mark Adjusted superior level 1 1/4” 1 1/2” Thoracic band bend mark Sacro-coccyx junction (corrected inferior mark)

Adjusting Paraspinal Bar Tracing  Place a ruler on the posterior side of the tracing  Move the ruler anteriorly until the edge touches the tracing at both the pelvic and thoracic band bend marks S Pelvic band bend mark Thoracic band bend mark S

Adjusting Paraspinal Bar Tracing  Draw lines 1 1/2” long up and down from their respective bend marks S Pelvic band bend mark Thoracic band bend mark S

Adjusting Paraspinal Bar Tracing  Your finished tracing should look like this S Pelvic band bend mark Thoracic band bend mark

Adjusting Paraspinal Bar Tracing  With the bands attached
