INPUT, OUTPUT, And STORAGE DEVICE By: Dwi Nurhayati (07) Putri Solekhah (08) PMI’12

INPUT DEVICE PMI’12

Input device is a hardware device that sends information into the CPU Input device is a hardware device that sends information into the CPU. Without any input devices a computer would simply be a display device and not allow users to interact with it, much like a TV. Below is a listing of different types of computer input devices. PMI’12

Web Cam A camera connected to a computer or server that allows anyone connected to the Internet to view still pictures or motion video of a user. The majority of webcam web sites are still pictures that are frequently refreshed every few seconds, minutes, hours, or days. However, there are some sites and personal pages that can supply streaming video for users with broadband. Most cameras like this are used during live conversations.  The camera transmits a picture from one computer to another, or can be used to record a short video. PMI’12

Keyboard The keyboard is a way to input letters or numbers into different applications or programs.  A keyboard also has special keys that help operate the computer. One of the main input devices used on a computer, a PC's keyboard looks very similar to the keyboards of electric typewriters, with some additional keys. Below is a graphic of the keyboard with indicators pointing to each of the major portions of the keyboard. PMI’12

Mouse The mouse is used to open and close files, navigate web sites, and click on a lot of commands (to tell the computer what to do) when using different applications.     PMI’12

Digital Camera A digital camera can be used to take pictures.  It can be hooked up to a computer to transfer the pictures from the camera to the computer.  Some digital cameras hold a floppy disk, and the floppy disk can be taken out of the camera and put directly into the computer. PMI’12

Drawing Tablet A drawing tablet is similar to a white board, except you use a special pen to write on it and it's connected to the computer.  Then the word or image you draw can be saved on the computer. PMI’12

Microphone A microphone is used to record sound Microphone A microphone is used to record sound.  The sound is then saved as a sound file on the computer. PMI’12

Optical scanner Hardware input device that allows a user to take an image and/or text and convert it into a digital file, allowing the computer to read and/or display the scanned object. A scanner is commonly connected to a computer USB, Firewire, Parallel or SCSI port. PMI’12

Joystick A joystick is used to move the cursor from place to place, and to click on various items in programs.  A joystick is used mostly for computer games. PMI’12

Touch Screen A touch screen is a computer screen or other screen that you can touch with your finger to enter information.  Examples of touch screens include a smart board, a microwave, a dishwasher, or an ATM at a bank. PMI’12

Bar Code Scanner A bar code scanner scans a little label that has a bar code on it.  The information is then saved on the computer.  Bar code scanners are used in libraries, supermarket, etc. PMI’12

OUTPUT DEVICE Output device is a tool for displaying the results of data processing by the CPU. Some output device on a computer that is monitor, speaker, printer and projector. PMI 12

Monitor A monitor is the screen on which words, numbers, and graphics can be seen. The monitor is the most common output device. There are two types of monitors that commonly use to computer, that is LCD and CRT. PMI 12

Speaker Speaker is one of the computer output devices shaped box or round with unique packaging with serves to release the results of processing such as voice from computer. PMI 12

Printer A printer prints whatever is on the monitor onto paper.  Printers can print words, numbers, or pictures. The type of printer : Printer Dot-Matrix Inkjet Printer Laser Printer PMI 12

Projector The projector is a device used to make the projections. Projectors often used in the presentation. PMI 12

A computer storage device is any type of hardware that stores data. PMI 12

Hard drive Hard drive are storage devices that most often used. Hard disk is a data storage medium on a computer that consists of a collection of magnetic hard platter and spinning as well as other electronic components. PMI 12

Floopy disc Floppy Disk Drive is a device that is in the computer as accessories and complementary to store data on the disk with low capacity. PMI 12

Flash disc Flash drive is a data storage type NAND flash memory with an integrated USB interface. PMI 12

CD/DVD CD or DVD burner would also be an I/O device, since it can both read and write data to discs. Compact Disc (CD)/DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) – CDs/DVDs store information.  The CD/DVD can then be put into another computer, and the information can be opened and added or used on the second computer.
