List some facts about your Community What are some places you might have visited in Quakertown? What are some different events you attended?

SPLISH-SPLASH Tracey watched the long line of cars and trucks. Three police officers directed them to the car wash at the back of the school building. “We’ve got our work cut out for us,” Tracey said to Jose and Kevin, who were filling bucks with water. “The more cars we wash, the more money we make for the library,” said Kevin. He picked up a hose and sponge and headed toward the first car.

SPLISH-SPLASH For the next three hours, students, teachers, parents and people from all over town washed cars, trucks, motorcycles, school buses, and even a tractor. Tracey’s arms ached. Puddles of soapy water pooled at her feet. She wondered if a bake sale would have been easier. It seemed like every citizen in the community had turned out for the car wash. The money raised would buy a lot of new books for the library, though. A sheet of cold water splashed over her. “Wake up, daydreamer!” Kevin shouted, holding his empty bucket high. “Time to get busy!” He pointed to where police cars and fire trucks had joined the line waiting for a wash. Tracey laughed and picked up her sponge again.

What are some ways that people in a community might work together? ________________________________________________

Cars and trucks are lining up for the car wash. Tracey, Kevin, and Jose work hard to clean them. The money raised will be used to buy new books for the library. Tracey is tired. She wonders if everyone in the community has come to the car wash. Kevin splashes her with cold water. She laughs and gets back to work!
