School uniform Survey Thomas Walmsley Year 4 Hello my name is Thomas Walmsley. I am going to present to you about the research that I did. The theme of my research was School Uniform.

What was the survey about? Research Question: What do children in Year 4 at my school think about wearing school uniform? Why I was interested: I wanted to find out if children at our school think we should change our school uniform because I had heard it being discussed. What was the survey about? Well after a great deal of thought, I decided that the question that I would ask was: What do children in year 4 at my school think about wearing school uniform? I was interested in this because I wanted to find out what children thought about the uniform because I had heard it being discussed.

How I collected the information Designed my questionnaires . Handed out my questionnaires. Used a mixture of open and closed questions . Got my questionnaires back. My data. I started the project by deciding how to do the research. I decided the best way was to use questionnaires. The picture show the questionnaire that I designed. I thought about the questions that I needed to ask. I then used them to design the questionnaire. I made sure I had a mixture of closed and open questions. I printed the questionnaires off, And handed these out. And got a range of responses back.

This is one of pages.

This is the second page.

The questions Do you think we should have school uniforms? Yes [ ] No [ ] Why do you think this? Do you like the PE kit uniform? Yes [ ] No [ ] Why do you think this?  Do you like the main school uniform? Yes [ ] No [ ]   Look at the picture below and tick the parts you like or put cross on the parts you don’t like. These are the questions that I asked. Have a look at them for a moment. [Pause and give people time to read them.]

Research Ethics I had to make sure I asked the questions appropriately. I didn’t want to upset people or cause offence. To do this properly I had to make sure I asked the questions appropriately, So that no one would get upset by the questions or take offence.

How many people responded? I typed up all the responses into a spreadsheet to help me analyse what I found out. I gave out 60 questionnaires. I got 32 back. The chart shows: 53% were female. 47% were male.

What I found out from the survey

Do you think we should have a school uniform? The first question on the questionnaire was, Do you think we should have a school uniform? The results were that 16 people said yes. 10 people said no, And 6 were unsure. Overall most people wanted a uniform.

Why people like the school uniform This graph shows why people thought we should have school uniform. More people thought is was important because we should be visible and be seen as members of Wavendon Gate School. For example when we are on school trips.

Why people didn’t like the uniform This graph shows why people didn’t like the school uniform. The main reasons were it is itchy and is not very fashionable.

Do you like the PE kit? The next question was about the PE kit. Most of the people that I asked, 24, liked the uniform. Only 7 didn’t.

Why people like pe kit Here are some of the main points that people put in the open questions. As you can see from the graph most people thought it was comfortable.

Why people don’t like pe kit This slide shows why people didn’t like the PE kit. As you can see, Itchy and too thin are drawing.

Do you like the main school uniform? The next chart shows how many people like the main school uniform. This shows just over half of the people like the uniform. A third of people didn’t like it.

Which parts of the school uniform did people like? I asked which part of the uniform people liked or didn’t like. They had to tick the parts they liked. This shows that there was no part of the uniform that stood out as being the most popular.

My conclusion Overall I found out that most people like the school uniform. I also found out that most people liked the PE uniform. This suggests that most children in year 4 at my school would not change it.

What I would do next time and what else I would like find about more If I was going to make changes next time I would, Do an interview with people. I would also like to ask other year groups.

Thank you for listening to my presentation
