US Energy Export Initiatives and Controls By: Diego Velazquez

Overview  The US energy export policy can be classified into two main areas  Policies concerning civilian technology, and policies concerning technologies used for military purposes.  National security implications in policy decisions  Exports of domestic resources  Sanctions placed on certain countries

Legislation & Policy Initiatives  Export Administration Act of 1979  Subsequent reauthorizations  Department of Energy’s Part 810 regulations that govern the movement of civilian nuclear technology  Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Export Initiative (RE4I)

Current Policy Issues & Initiatives  Debate among some to loosen regulations on exports of domestically produced crude  Domestic production has risen in last few years, combined with an overall reduced domestic consumption  Exporting of green technology equipment to increase American competitiveness  Energy exports to Russia/Ukraine have been cut off in wake of recent foreign events
