The ICSW What is ICSW? An international charity that provides tools and support to frontline welfare agencies (ICSW members) to achieve the objective: ‘to promote the relief of need, hardship or distress amongst seafarers of all nationalities, races, colours and creeds’

Pastoral Care Delivered through the ICSW’s 4 main areas of operation: 1. Membership Support Mutual support and networking to provide the best care possible to seafarers by helping agencies to focus on their specific areas of expertise and not having to be ‘jack of all trades and master of none’

Pastoral Care 2. Projects Tools provided to frontline seafarers’ welfare agencies and personnel ( Twinning Centres - share knowledge, build relationships and learn from each other. Training - accredited Ship Welfare Visitor Course addressing problems arising from ISPS & maintain/enhance ship visiting. Target instructors and 5000 welfare workers over 4 years. Port Directory – facilities & services relevant to seafarers & welfare agencies Guidelines – on practical implementation of ILO C163 & R173 to be updated to include MLC2006 PWC/NSWB Guide – on set up & operation of these key bodies

Pastoral Care 2. Projects Provide support direct to seafarers: Seafarers’ Health Information Programme – seafarer specific information campaign on 7 lifestyle related health topics as defined by extensive project development study. Sport – ‘a fit seafarer = a safer ship’, in 2006, 797 matches were registered from 24 centres.

Pastoral Care Every 18 months to 2 years Raise awareness of seafarers’ welfare issues in a particular region or sub-region Requirement driven Tailored to result in a Regional Seafarers’ Welfare Development Programme designed to address and resolve issues raised during the seminar Next one = Singapore,September 2007 integrated with ICMA chaplains conference & SWVC 3. The Future 1.Membership Support - corporate associate membership, re-structure following Strategic Review to broaden membership 2.Projects –SHIP Phase 2 –Sport – secure funds, diversify –Twinning – 3 pairs per year to 2008 then phase 3? –Training – SWVC rollout, distance learning, MLC 06 course –Port Directory delivery 3.Seminars - Singapore 2007, Far East or Middle East in Regional Work Programmes – South East Asia (start 2008), Far East/Middle East (start 2010)
