10 UWTSA’s mission is to Build a Better Community, by uniting people, ideas and resources. Partner with more than 75 non-profit agencies in the areas of Education, Income, and Health - the building blocks of a good life. “It Takes a Team!” United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona (UWTSA)

11 Goal: Help young children prepare for school & life. UTWSA Community Development team is collaborating with College of Education. The goal is to strengthen collaborative efforts between University of Arizona and United Way through “Read on Tucson” with the ideal of improving Third Grade reading scores. Dean Ronald Marx and select faculty have agreed to create a recurring conversation to idea and resource share. We established a partnership and are funding them through the First Things First grant to provide parenting education to fathers and grandparents in Pima County through Education College of Education, UA Pima County Cooperative Extension Office & United Way

12 Goal: Help families be financially stable. Accounting undergrads spent over 140 hours processing tax refunds for Tucsonans in need through a partnership with United Way and the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The Accounting Student Association has participated in the VITA program for many years, but the number of volunteers exploded in The Take Charge America Institute participates in the Financial Stability Partnership & Financial Education Collaborative of Southern Arizona. United Way participates in and has served as a $1,000 sponsor of the Institute’s Arizona Financial Face-Off. Income Eller College, Take Charge Institute & United Way

13 Goal: Educate families on healthy living & increase senior independence. UWTSA has been working closely with the UofA to deliver nutrition education to childcare centers as a sub-contractor to their Nutrition Network program since October 1, UA staff supports United Way’s Senior Strategic Workgroup by serving as committee members. The Center on Aging also partners with the ELDER Alliance. Health UA Department of Nutritional Sciences, UA Center on Aging & United Way

14 United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona provides many resources in the community that are available to students, staff & faculty such as: Earned Income Tax Credit program Family support programs including parent education, early literacy, quality child care and after school programs Senior care giving resources And many more. Served 1 in 10 Tucsonans
