Battle Of Bloody Marsh  The Battle of Bloody Marsh was fought July 7,1742 on St. Simons Island. The Battle of Bloody Marsh took place during a campaign. Spanish governor Dan Manuel de Mantiazo from the capital of St. Augustine, Florida English forces that were led by James Oglethorpe (founder) had attacked St. Augustine two years earlier and Dan Manuel now hoped that they take the battle to them by attacking Fort Fredric on St. Simons Island. The Spanish moved up the military road to Frederica on the morning of July 7, 1742 and had around 180 men, but was driven back by James Oglethorpe at the Battle of Gully Hole Creek.

Government  In 1775 Georgia was governed as a Royal Colony. A Royal Colony is a colony ruled by officials appointed by Great Britain.

History  Georgia was founded in 1732 by James Oglethorpe. Georgia was named after the king George II of England. King George II issued Georgia’s first official charter. Georgia’s trustees held a meeting and elected John Earl as president.

Geography  Hilly costal plains with plenty of forests. Includes rocky soil in northern parts of the area but the other soil is suitable for farming crops. Ideal place for agriculture. The climate was warm and moist which was perfect for growing cash crops.

Religion  In Georgia there was no specific religion. All religions were welcomed. The only one exception were Catholics how were not welcomed due to religious wars in England.

Economy  Mostly on agriculture and developing the plantations exporting tobacco, cotton, corn, vegetables, grains, fruits, and livestock. Crops were traded for items that could not be produced on the plantations including shoes, thread, dishes, and farming tool.
