THE WAY INTO THE SANCTUARY PART III CHRIST’S EARTHLY MINISTRY By Calvin Mariano

CHRIST—OUR NEW LIFE— SERVICES IN THE COURTYARD 1. CHRIST, THE CONTINUAL BURNT OFFERING—(morning and even) Christ was crucified in the morning and died in the even (9 AM and 3 PM) (Deut. 29:39; Mrk 15:25-37). Sacrifice + fire on the altar = smoke and ashes (Our sinful life in Christ + purification through the Spirit = destruction of sin and purified life).

Christ, our Sacrifice for Sin 2. CHRIST, THE SIN OFFERING (Goat or Lamb, female without blemish Lev 4:27- 35). John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Christ, our Sacrifice and Priest Lev 4:34,35 Sacrifice’s blood applied at the horns upon the altar of burnt offering roundabout and the rest poured at the bottom and the fats were burned upon it. Lev 6:26 Sacrifice’s flesh or meat eaten (cooked) by the priest to bear the iniquity of the congregation (Lev. 10:17).

The Exchange of Life at the Cross Christ received the sinner’s life and his sin and died for its penalty. The sinner received Christ’s life and His righteousness and live. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Exchange of Life at the Cross Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

The Justification in the Courtyard As the penitent sinner, contrite before God, discerns Christ's atonement in his behalf, and accepts this atonement as his only hope in this life and the future life, his sins are pardoned. This is justification by faith. {FLB 116.4}

Imputed Christ’s Righteousness The grace of Christ is freely to justify the sinner without merit or claim on his part. Justification is a full, complete pardon of sin. The moment a sinner accepts Christ by faith, that moment he is pardoned. The righteousness of Christ is imputed to him, and he is no more to doubt God's forgiving grace. {FLB 107.2}

Purpose of Justification—to Obtain Sanctification Justification means the saving of a soul from perdition, that he may obtain sanctification, and through sanctification, the life of heaven. Justification means that the conscience, purged from dead works, is placed where it can receive the blessings of sanctification (MS 113, 1902). {7BC }

The trial of faith Of the trial of faith Peter writes: "Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy." And James says, "Count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing." {RH, March 7, 1912 par. 2}

The trial of faith Christians are Christ's jewels. They are to shine brightly for him, shedding forth the light of his loveliness. Their luster depends on the polishing they receive. They may choose to be polished or to remain unpolished. But every one who is pronounced worthy of a place in the Lord's temple must submit to the polishing process. Without the polishing that the Lord gives, they can reflect no more light than a common pebble. {RH, March 7, 1912 par. 3}
