The mother lays the egg The egg has to stay in its fathers brood pouch while the mother finds food The chick inside the egg starts to hatch It takes about three days for the egg to hatch

After the chick hatches it is wet like it has just gone swimming. The chick’s down dries and it becomes fluffy. It has to stay in its fathers brood pouch so it does not freeze. The mother comes back and feeds the chick.

As the chick grows it becomes more independent and does not need to stay in its parents brood pouch anymore. The chick starts to lose it’s down. The chick loses all it’s down and is able to swim now.

The penguin is fully grown now. It spends most of its time catching fish in the water. It will find a mate and it will be able to take care of it’s own egg now.
