Amphibians must always stay close to water.

soft eggs. The eggs hatch into tadpoles. All amphibians start out as soft eggs. The eggs hatch into tadpoles.

They start life in the water, but live their adult life on the land.

A frog is an amphibian.

Toads are amphibians.

Newts are amphibians, too.

This is the Emperor newt.

This is a newt with her eggs.

Salamanders are amphibians.

All amphibians hatch from eggs.

The eggs have a soft, jelly like, shell.

Amphibians must lay their eggs in water.

The water keeps the eggs wet. If they laid their eggs on land the sun would dry them out and no tadpoles would hatch.

Look closely. Do you see the tiny tadpoles? They are about to hatch.

Tadpoles are tiny when they hatch.

All baby amphibians are called tadpoles.

Baby frogs are tadpoles.

Baby toads are tadpoles.

Baby newts are tadpoles

and baby salamanders are tadpoles, too.
