The Angels & The Son December 9 th, 2012

The Eternal Son of God  Before the Christ child was the son of Mary; he was first and foremost the Eternally Existent, Pre-Incarnate, Son of God.

 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1)  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. (John 1:1-3)

The Angel & Mary  “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. (Luke 1:34-35)

The Apostle Paul Describes The Incarnation  Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. (Philippians 2:5-7)

The Devil Tempts The Son of God  V2 - ‘for forty days he was tempted by the devil’.  V3 - The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”  V9 - The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here”.

The Demons Testify to The Son of God  V33 - In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an evil spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice, 34 “Ha! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”  V41 - Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, “You are the Son of God!” But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Christ.

Jesus Affirms He is the Eternal Son of God When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

Jesus Affirms He is the Eternal Son of God 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. (Matt 16:13-17)

Jesus Prays to His Father Just Before His Suffering & Death “Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him.

Jesus Prays to His Father Just Before His Suffering & Death 3 “Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4 I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began. (John 17:1-5)

This Is The Christ of Christmas  He is Israel’s promised Messiah.  He is the eternal Son of God, King of Glory, Image of the Invisible God.  This is the one who put on human flesh – born that Christmas night.  Who do YOU say that Jesus is?
