Ambition in Action WHAT WILL HAPPEN ?  10am-11.30pm: Information session  Registration  Course information session  Writing and Maths evaluation 11.30am-12.30pm: 1 hour break  interview times will be posted.  12.30– 3.00 pm interviews conducted  PLEASE BRING A PEN AND BE SURE TO LEAVE CLEAR CONTACT DETAILS ON APPLICATION FORM  You will be contacted by phone after your interview

Ambition in Action Important Changes for Under 17s From January 2010 a young person under 17 must engage in full time education, training, work or a combination of these Young people must remain at school until 17yrs or complete year 10 If you are UNDER 16 and have not completed Year 10 you need to speak to your school Principal. Transfers from school system to TAFE NSW are initiated by your school principal.

Ambition in Action Options for Under 17s Full time study or training (CGVE, HSC or vocational training) Work full time (25hpw) Combination of study and work (25hpw) NOTE: There may be medical reasons for not doing full time

Ambition in Action What are the TAFE Year 10 Option courses we offer? The Year 10 option courses are a group of courses that allow students to work towards year 10 and year 12 certificate levels

Ambition in Action Different levels available Preparation for Year10 – 1 semester (6 months) Full-Time For students needing longer study time to reach year 10 level. Preparation for Year 11/12 – 1 semester Full-Time (Minimum) 3 Days Per week (prepares you for HSC/TPC studies) CGVE (year 10 level) – 1 semester Full-Time (Minimum) 4 Days Per week (plus some online work where necessary) for students who want year 10 or need to work on skills for year 12 studies THEN… HSC / TPC (year 12 level) – Up to 2 years Full-Time Studies for University and Further Vocational study in TAFE OR… Vocational Options (Cert 3 or 4 or Diploma)

Ambition in Action TAFE Classes are a BIG commitment You will attend classes FOUR days per week MONDAY-THURSDAY ONLY  Most classes start between 8.30 and 10.30am  Most classes finish at 5pm  Classes commence on Monday Feb 8 th 2010 This slideshow will repeat if you miss anything

Ambition in Action What will I study in these courses? Subjects may include:  Science  English  Maths  Computing  Humanities / History/ Geography / Australian Studies / Art  Digital Photography / Media There are no formal exams at the end of the Prep Year 10, 11 and 12 courses, however there are ongoing assessments, practical tests and essays to complete throughout the courses.

Ambition in Action What other options are there?  As part of your your studies you may wish to gain recognition through previous studies.  This is called RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning)  This MAY allow you to fast track some of your studies.  Especially if you have completed elements of Year 10, 11 or 12 studies at school or TAFE.  Talk to your interviewer  YOU WILL HAVE TO PROVIDE EVIDENCE OF PREVIOUS STUDIES

Ambition in Action What makes a good TAFE student?  Motivation: You should be motivated towards a goal, keep this in mind and you will succeed.  Enthusiasm to study: you should have an eager mind to start studying, no matter HOW LONG it has been since you last attended school.  Be part of a team: The ability to work with fellow students and respect their rights.  Attitude: We aren’t really concerned about your ‘past’, we just want to know that you are committed to change, and are here to study, not cause a nuisance, or waste time
