Image Democratic Ideals The Civil War has just ended, and the Southern states are back in the Union. But the Southern economy is in ruins. Slavery has been abolished. Northerners and Southerners feel deep anger toward one another. As a member of Congress, you must help rebuild the nation. How would you rebuild the nation?

What problems would you face in rebuilding the nation? How would you ease tensions between North and South? How would you help freed African Americans?
