Treated Past tense of treat: to behave toward or deal with in a certain way. Cesar Chavez believed all farm workers should be treated fairly. Definition: An explanation of the word.

Union A group of workers who join together to get better pay and working conditions. Definition: Cesar Chavez helped led the farm workers union.

Support To provide for. Definition: It was hard for farm workers to support their family.

Border The line where one country ends and another begins. Definition: Cesar’s grandfather crossed the Mexican border into Texas in the 1880’s.

Crops Plural of crop : fruits, vegetables, or other plants that are grown on a farm and sold. Definition: In California, Cesar Chavez and his family picked crops for other farms.

Migrant Farm Workers A person who travels from one farm to another. Definition: Farm workers move from farm to farm to pick crops. Some travel to different states

Strike To stop work in order to get better pay and working conditions. Definition: In 1965, Cesar asked grape pickers to strike or to refuse to work.

Boycott To refuse to buy something. Definition: Cesar Chavez asked American to boycott grapes. Some people stopped buying grapes.

Weakened Past tense of weaken: To grow less strong. Definition: The two hunger strikes may have weakened Cesar Chavez.

Weakened To grow less strong. Definition: The cotton pickers were weakened.
