The Blue Fish

Once upon a time, there was a girl called Céline, who live with her parents and her brothers. She could have been happy if her mother had loved her more, but she preferred her son.

Everyday, Céline’s mother used to send her for some spring water. The road was long and steep.

One evening, she was bored. While she was lost in thought, she stopped on the beach. Suddenly a fantastic bluish fish appeared. « Your sorrow affect me. I’m the blue fish; I would like to help you. Every day, come and see me with your gourd and I’ll fill it with the water of frienship ».

The day after, her mother told her brother to spy on her. This devil woman wanted to know about the crystalline water she had brought back home. As sly as a fox, the boy hid behind a big coconut tree and saw Céline singing and then knew about the blue fish.

The perfidious brother told her mother what he saw. The cruel lady decided to send Céline to her godmother. In the meantime, they would go and kill the innocent blue fish. Before leaving, she went to the beach and took her rosary and wound it around a piece of wood and planted it in the sand.

While she was going to her godmother’s house, her family was making their bloody arsenal: harpoons, axes, ropes and large knives.

The whole family rushed on the poor animal that couldn’t resist a long time.

When Céline arrived on the beach, the rosary lay untidily on the sand. Blood came from the wounded foam.

Back home, she stood mute. At lunchtime, her mother brought some fish. Then, she thought she would weaken: the flesh of this fish was blue.

Céline fled, running towards the beach. She sank into the sea until she lost foot. The young girl let herself sink to the bottom of the ocean, as one can let a tear fall. As one can let a love go.
