It was narrated that a man went to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) and told him about two women who were fasting, They were striving to death from thirst, The Messenger of Allah did not pay attention to him and said nothing, so the man left, then after a while he returns back again to the Messenger of Allah saying:

"O, Messenger of Allah, they were really about to die out of thirst”. The Messenger of Allah asked him to bring the two women, when they came and sat in front of him, he brought a big empty glass and put it infront of one of them and said "Vomit", the woman vomited pieces of meat mingled with blood & pus until she filled half of the glass, then he did the same with the other woman. "O, Messenger of Allah, they were really about to die out of thirst”. The Messenger of Allah asked him to bring the two women, when they came and sat in front of him, he brought a big empty glass and put it infront of one of them and said "Vomit", the woman vomited pieces of meat mingled with blood & pus until she filled half of the glass, then he did the same with the other woman.

The Messenger of Allah said: “Those two women had fasted as being ordained by Allah, and break their fast on what is prohibited by Allah. They sat with each other eating the flesh of people (gossiping & pointing out people's disgraces)”.

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said "Fasting is not merely depriving yourself from food & water, but real fasting is to forbid yourself from null and shameful speech, so if someone insulted & abused you, you say I'm fasting, I'm fasting"
