Homelessness in America 650,000 homeless on any one night 1.6 million people spend at least 1 shelter/night annually; up to 3 million homeless annually California has 21% of all homeless (10% of pop.) 2/3 rds individuals & 1/3 rd families 22% shelter individuals under 18 years of age 23% shelter individuals years of age Since 2007 shelter use decreased 17% in cities & increased 57% in rural areas
