Vail Cellular DAS Project

History TCI franchise agreement CenturyLink 86 node Wi-Fi network CDOT fiber IGA / 2012 Cellular DAS project.

Our Goals Increased cellular coverage and capacity. Multi-carrier network. Upgraded Wi–Fi. Partner to own, operate, and maintain the system. No capital expenditure. Fiber... Fiber... Fiber

The Outcome Cellular repeater system in Village Transportation Center. Twin tower macro site at Public Works. Fiber based multi-carrier Distributed Antenna System. Updated and expanded Wi-Fi. Fiber... Fiber... Fiber.

What It Cost Us Real Estate. Staff Resources. Hub site revenue.

Business Model Single carrier ROI. Crown Castle owns and operates the network. Free public Wi-Fi managed by Aspen Wireless.

Project Status Hub site built and operational. Seven of 29 nodes up and operational. Goal is to be fully operational ahead of the 2015 FIS World Alpine Championships.

Lessons Learned Start early and be patient. Timing is everything. It’s a team project. Don’t be greedy. Don’t miss the bus.
