Welcome to the Irvin D. Reid Honors College!

The mission of the Irvin D. Reid Honors College to promote informed, engaged citizenship as the foundation for academic excellence in a diverse global setting. Honors is city-based and service-oriented; we promote excellence and challenge our students to engage the world around them as problem-solvers and leaders. Honors has also attracted a growing number of National Merit Scholars, with 15 joining Honors in Fall The Irvin D. Reid Honors College welcomes the best and brightest and frames their educational experience within the Four Pillars of Honors: Community, Service, Research and Career.

Honors attracts and retains talented students through such efforts as Scholars Day, which showcases the University and our urban home, and where every promising young scholar is guaranteed a scholarship and a seat in the Community of Scholars. Scholars Day 2010 welcomed almost 1,100 admitted students and their guests to our campus.

Honors Pillar #3: RESEARCH Hands-on research prepared students for graduate school and professional life Office of Undergraduate Research connects students with faculty mentors and available funding for nearly 100 undergraduate research and creative projects a year OUR has awarded more than $1.3 million for student research Annual Wayne State Undergraduate Research Conference each November – the 2009 URC was largest to-date with over 120 students presenting their work 23 WSU students attended NCUR in April 2010

Honors Pillar #4: CAREER B StartEngineering Grad Start Innovative five-year program that allows students to complete Bachelor’s & Master’s degrees in Business Administration A unique program in the College of Engineering for select students interested in pursuing a doctoral degree in engineering. Highly competitive, B Start trains future leaders in business by emphasizing mentoring and research opportunities with business school faculty. You will be exposed to research throughout your undergraduate program, allowing you to gain research experience and a head start on selecting laboratories for your Honors thesis and dissertation project. Guaranteed admission to Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at Wayne State School of Business Administration GradStart participants are guaranteed admission to the College of Engineering Graduate Program of their choice, with financial support from the department for the first year of graduate study.
