COE Schedule Deadlines and due dates:

Deadline #1  Friday, Oct 17 th : 1 st two Reading / Writing prompts due  They must be marked as “complete”  They must be marked with “Include selected passage in COE” (check the box to the left of any prompts you want included).

Deadline #2  Friday, Oct 31st: 2nd two Reading / Writing prompts due  They must be marked as “complete”  They must be marked with “Include selected passage in COE” (check the box to the left of any prompts you want included).

Deadline #3  Friday, Nov.14th: 3rd two Reading / Writing prompts due  They must be marked as “complete”  They must be marked with “Include selected passage in COE” (check the box to the left of any prompts you want included).

Revisions  At least three essays / prompts must be revised and sent back to me by December 5 th  All essays must be complete and in a condition to be sent to OSPI (state of Washington) by December 19th

On-Demand attempts  Jan 8 th / 9 th : Reading and writing “On Demand” prompts  Work is unassisted by the teacher (HSPE style test expectations)  You will have approximately 120 – 240 minutes to complete the prompts  Make-ups on Jan 12 th (for absent students)

Work submitted for 1 st semester  Jan 17 th – Completed portfolios are sent to OSPI (state of Washington)  If a portfolio is incomplete, sub-standard or is ineligible due to not enough HSPE test attempts (2 minimum), then the portfolio will be submitted in JUNE (Results will not arrive before graduation).

If you have a 2 nd portfolio  We will work on your 2 nd portfolios 2 nd semester for those that need it.  If you finish with the 1 st portfolio in the 1 st semester, let me know and I can get you started on the 2 nd portfolio. However, if your 1 st portfolio isn’t well edited and proofread, then you will need to fix it first.  If you are only doing one portfolio, for the 2 nd semester I will have you doing 4 extra “augmentation” prompts. That way, if your initial portfolio is just below passing, you can submit these additional essays as an “augmented” portfolio in June. It is also good practice for the HSPE test in spring.

Final submission date  ALL eligible portfolios that were not sent earlier will be sent in late May. Deadlines will follow later.  If a portfolio never reaches a high enough standard to where it can be sent, it will not be sent since you only have one attempt.

Don’t forget your alternatives! (Do them as soon as possible)  SAT / ACT  HSPE tests (in the spring of 2014)

Get the work done, but do it well!  Don’t get distracted!  Don’t surf the net!  Don‘t spend most of the period talking to friends!  The clock is ticking fairly fast on 1 st semester, so don’t waste time. You will not get the work done if you do!  Don’t forget: The work you do in the class counts twice:  Senior English Credit  Possible credit in the assessment category for graduation requirements
