Leaves Chapter 1 Lesson 4

Words to Know Leaf- part of a plant where most of the food is made Veins- Part of the leaf that holds tubes which carry food, water, and minerals Stomate- a tiny opening on the underside of a leaf

Parts of a leaf Blade – The main part of the leaf Stalk – part that connects the blade to the stem. Veins – have tubes that carry food and water Stomates – take in air and water vapor

Different kinds of leaves Broad leaf plants- have wide, flat leaves Simple- has one blade, attached to one stalk Compound- has many blades attached to one stalk Needle leaf plants-The leaves are small, thin and pointed. They have a tough outer covering, this helps the leaf to contain water.
