The expert rider displays an awareness of the capabilities of both himself and his machine when cornering, braking, accelerating and also the effect that road camber can have on the above.

Bike Control Cornering Grip Braking or Acceleration Grip It can be seen that as soon as a large amount of cornering grip is demanded from the tyres, there is little in reserve for braking or acceleration. The more of one type of grip you demand from your tyres, the less you will have available of the other.

Bike Control Constant Speed - even weight distribution. Acceleration - weight shifts back. Braking - weight shifts forwards.

Bike Control Cornering - weight shifts to the outside of the bend. Cornering & Accelerating - weight shifts to the outside of the bend and to the back. Cornering & Braking - weight shifts to the outside of the bend and to the front. The more you brake or accelerate, the less you will be able to corner safely.

Bike Control SKIDDING is defined as the involuntary movement of a vehicle due to the grip of the tyres on the road becoming less than a force or forces acting on the vehicle. It is caused by: - Excessive speed for the circumstances. Course cornering at a speed that is not itself excessive. Excessive banking. Harsh acceleration. Sudden or excessive braking. IF YOU START TO SKID - REMOVE THE CAUSE. It is caused by: - Excessive speed for the circumstances. Course cornering at a speed that is not itself excessive. Excessive banking. Harsh acceleration. Gently take up the free play in the brakes. Alter pressures progressively as needed. Relax the pressures as speed is lost. Release pressure just before stopping to avoid a jerky halt. Always be able to stop on your own side of the road within the distance you can see to be clear. Good Braking Technique Good Braking Technique

When cornering, it is essential that the rider selects the correct gear to match the speed of the motorcycle. Stability is a vital ingredient in cornering technique. Inappropriate gear selection will adversely affect the performance of the machine.

1 Approach 2 Entry 3 Exit Bike Control Assess the bend and adjust your speed accordingly. Adjust power delivery to enable a constant speed through the bend. When exiting the bend start to accelerate as the view ahead increases and the bike stabilises.

Bike Control One way to turn the bike rapidly is to use counter steering. This involves pushing on the inside handlebar to cause the bike to turn. If you push on the left bar... The bike turns left. You Could acquaint yourself with counter steering as it can help you avoid a collision.
